Eibar is a city and
municipality within the
province of
Gipuzkoa, in the
Basque Country. The city was chartered by
Alfonso XI of Castile in
1346. Its chief industry since the
16th century has been the manufacture of armaments, particularly finely engraved
small arms.
The city is home to the
SD Eibar football team who (as of 2007/08) play in the
Segunda División.
Eibar is one of the major industrial cities in the Basque country, known for its metal mills (specifically steel and iron).
